PROJECT
DPRA designed and created a Waste Site Management System first for the Department of Indian and Northern Affairs (INAC), Yukon region.
TASKS + OBJECTIVES
This included the development of an MS Access database with input and reportforms for data input and report generation. Also included was a user?friendly query system which utilizes picklists to allow for refinement of query parameters and retrieval of relevant records. Phase 2 involved the creationof a user friendly ‘front end’ for ArcView. The application allows the user to perform tabular queries from MSAccess and spatial queries from ArcView, and display the results in either application. This system was initially built for INAC ? Yukon. Subsequently, INAC headquarters (Ottawa) requested the modification of the system forimplementation in their office to facilitate the tracking, monitoring and reporting of all the waste sites north ofthe 60th parallel.
SMART SOLUTIONS
These modifications included the addition of a costing section to allow for input and monitoring of all costs associated with each waste site as well as a reporting system to allow INAC ? Ottawa tosubmit mandatory information to the Treasury Board. Expenditures, cost estimates, funding requests and forecasts can be entered against the Waste Site locations. This information can then be queried by various parameters (date, location, contractor etc.) to produce summary as well as detailed financial reports. Comparison reports between funding requests and expenditures can also be produced from the above input parameters. The system is now operational in three regions – NWT, NU and Yukon as well as the INAC Ottawa office.
