Jacqueline Quinless

Jacqueline Quinless is a Senior Associate at DPRA based in Victoria, British Columbia. She is completing her PhD in applied statistics and First Nations issues at the University of Victoria, and has 15 years of applied research experience. Jacqueline is knowledgeable in the issues related to Aboriginal people through a solid academic background, combined with years of applied experience working directly with numerous Aboriginal groups and organizations across Canada. She has worked on numerous socio-economic and demographic research studies directly related to the Aboriginal community for federal, provincial and municipal levels of government on a variety of Aboriginal issues such as Urban Aboriginal Population, Aboriginal Women in Canada, Aboriginal Lone Parent Families in Canada, Labour Market and Employment Trends of Aboriginal people and Children’s Outcomes related to the Aboriginal Head Start Association of BC.

Previously, Jacqueline was the principle owner and Research Director at Quintessential Research Group Inc., a social research and statistical consulting firm focusing on Aboriginal issues based in British Columbia. Prior to joining private industry, Jacqueline worked for the Population Research Laboratory (PRL) at the University of Alberta, Research Data Center (RDC) at the University of Calgary, the Department of Advanced Education at the Government of Alberta and was employed for 10 years with Statistics Canada. She relies on numerous Statistics Canada and administrative data sources to produce socio-economic profiles, and research papers for different levels of government directly related to the Aboriginal community. She has a strong working knowledge of various statistical software packages and can analyze data using Beyond 2020, Excel, Stata, SPSS, and SAS for basic descriptive analysis to advanced multi-level log and liner equation modeling. She has also been involved in helping to coordinate and manage primary data collection activities for the 2011 Census of Population and National Household Survey (NHS) for all on First Nation reserve communities on Vancouver Island, BC Northern and Coastal communities as well as all populations in the Yukon Territory using a variety of mixed methodologies. She also helped manage the 2001 Census of Population in Alberta, the 2001 Early Enumeration for the Arctic Region & Inuit Peoples and the 2001 Treaty Seven Housing Survey for First Nations people living on reserve in Alberta.

Some of her clients have included BC Stats, Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development (formerly INAC), Statistics Canada, the City of Edmonton Aboriginal Relations Office, the Aboriginal Head Start Association of BC, Census Canada, and the Manitoba Bureau of Statistics. Jacqueline has authored and co-authored many peer reviewed and government publications, and has presented her research papers directly related to the Canadian Aboriginal community at various conferences nationally and internationally. She has co-chaired three major Aboriginal conferences in Canada including the “Aboriginal Strategies Conference 2003”, the “Tools for Success Conference 2007: Using Data to Build Vibrant Aboriginal Communities” and the “Aboriginal Strategies Conference 2009”.
